Meet Fabian – The Specialist In Wood Packaging
What Fabian doesn’t know about wood packaging or butterflies (!) isn’t worth knowing. His great interest in photographing insects has taken him to many new places, but in his day-to-day life, he manufactures customized wood packaging at JGA Emballage in Skruv.
Fabian grew up with forestry in the family, and when it was time to choose a high school program, he opted for the forestry technical track. After that, he started working at the then-named MASAB, which focused on producing wood packaging.
The plan was to work part-time for a couple of weeks, but those weeks turned into months, and today he has been employed in packaging manufacturing for over 30 years.
A Varied Workday
Fabian builds customized wood packaging for a wide range of industries and operations. This includes everything from pallets and wooden crates to large production series or individually crafted wood packaging.
Fabian constructs many of the larger custom wood packages for Xylem’s pump manufacturing. “Wood is an effective material for packaging because it is highly shock-absorbing,” he says. “It protects the contents well and prevents potential damage.”
His role as a wood industry worker involves the entire workflow—from sourcing materials to cutting, building, and delivering the finished packaging. Fabian also handles any material waste generated during production.
The variety in his work is something he greatly appreciates, and he also sees ergonomic advantages in changing tasks. “It’s important to perform different tasks and movements so the work doesn’t become monotonous. At the same time, it’s fun to have variety,” he says.
About half of his time is spent cutting materials to the correct dimensions, while the other half is spent assembling the packaging. Everything is done according to pre-designed plans and blueprints to meet the unique needs and requests of each customer.
Good Colleagues Are Important
Fabian’s satisfaction with his job at JGA Emballage is evident. Even though the role is independent—which he enjoys—he also values the social aspects of the job. “I really like my colleagues, and it makes work so much more enjoyable. I’ve always liked my job here, especially because of the colleagues. We share some similar hobbies.”
However, few colleagues have as much expertise in insects and butterflies as Fabian. He has traveled all over the country to find different species, and he enjoys photographing them. “Sweden has the highest number of butterfly species in the world relative to its northern latitude, thanks to the country’s many climate zones,” Fabian explains.
A More Efficient Way of Working
Over the years, Fabian has seen working methods change, and today we operate in a more efficient and structured manner. He also notes that small improvements in the work environment, such as logistical changes, can make a big difference in the results.
As a person, Fabian is easygoing and positive. He connects well with different people and enjoys a dynamic environment. This makes him well-suited to his role, where there is always something to do. “I’d rather be a bit busy than the other way around!” he concludes.
